First, we’ll head to Serra de Montejunto, a mountain which rises to more than 660 meters. It’s the highest peak in the Extremadura region. Next is a stop at the Salvé Rainha viewpoint, which offers a view, on a clear day, of more than 50 kilometers, allowing you to see as far as the Berlengas Islands. The top of this mountain houses the unusual Royal Ice Factory (Real Fábrica do Gelo), that once supplied ice to the royal palaces of Portugal, and later on to the posh restaurants and bars of Lisbon.
The day carries on with a drive to Cabo Da Roca, the westernmost point of the European continent. The Portuguese poet Luis de Camões described this place as “the place where the land ends and the sea begins”. At about 150 meters above the sea, you can admire a vast panorama of the Serra de Sintra massif as well as the breathtaking coastline.
